Donate Clothing and Stuff in the Saratoga Springs Area

Piles of old shoes

Everyone has stuff that we don’t want anymore. Kids outgrow their clothes on a regular basis. Towels get a little worse for wear. Shoes just don’t fit right anymore. Books read a hundred times do not need to take up the shelf. How many post-it notes does one household need?

One of the fun things about moving is finding all the stuff you have accumulated. We had a bit of time to organize and sort before packing the entire house. It was a pretty fun adventure. One of my goals was to assemble like items together. Let’s talk about post-it notes. So post-its are pretty affordable and easy to find…in the stores. But when someone needed post-its for homework, phone messages or whatever why were they always gone? Well, when we started putting things in boxes, we found all the places the post-its were hiding.

Blue donation bins

I actually moved a box of various sized post-it notes from Rochester to Saratoga Springs. Nope. Not moving it again. I found the website for The Franklin Community Center near down Saratoga Springs. They put their wish list right online and guess what! They need school supplies! I got all the “special pencils” the kids have accumulated over the past 9 years of school and goody bags. I found notepads that we didn’t need and of course the post-its! I boxed up pounds of colored paper and construction paper, goody bag pencil sharpeners and erasers. Why did all this stuff move with us? Who knows, but it’s not moving again!

Franklin Community Center doesn’t just need school supplies. Bring your donations of food, clothing and household items as well. Check out their list of needs.

I brought my boxes of school supplies to 10 Franklin Street, pulled up to the curb and unloaded all those things we didn’t need but someone else did!

I felt so awesome. I am so awesome. Let’s keep it up!

Clothing donation table

While driving around Saratoga I kept seeing multiple places to drop off clothing into big metal bins. There doesn’t seem to be any sort of bin location guide on the Internet. So if you see a bin jot it down to bring your clothing and items back and drop them off.

The Saratoga Springs Public Library would love your donations of books, CDs, and DVDs. They can not accept everything. Be sure to check out their website for more information and for drop-off times. And while you’re there, be sure to check out the shop to buy “new to you” books, CDs, and DVDs!

Shelters of Saratoga is a non-profit organization who works with homeless and at-risk members of our Saratoga Springs community. They have a wish list right on their website with toiletries, housewares, and food items that they need. Anything you don’t need anymore would be a welcome gift for those right in our own community.

Stack of white towels

Now, for the not gently used towels, I found out that the Saratoga County Animal Shelter is a wonderful place to bring donations. They have their wish list on their website with lots of items that they need. It is a beautiful facility and the people (and animals) there were so grateful for my donation.

Noah’s Attic in Ballston Spa is a great place to donate gently used clothing and other household items as they support other areas of our community. I’m pretty sure they take toys and baby items. I have not stopped at the store, but drive by and see all sorts of colorful items for sale. Check their website for more information about where and when to drop off donations.

So if you are sorting, cleaning, organizing or packing to move, you will have things you don’t need anymore. Instead of throwing things in the trash bin, bring needed items to the variety of places in our community.
