I think we are all excited that some sort of normal has returned with NFL football season under way. With Covid-19 still affecting everyday life, the NFL games look a bit different this year. Just because many of the stadiums will be empty of fans does not mean we won’t be enjoying the games and cheering on our teams. (more…)

Musical Instrument Supplies, Rentals and Repair in Saratoga Springs

Find information about music supplies, sheet music and buying, renting, and repairing musical instruments in the Saratoga Springs area.

Both of my kids play instruments in the school band, and of course instruments frequently need maintenance. Child #1 plays the flute and Child #2 plays the Tenor Sax.

Of course, I start every search online, so I went to Google. In Saratoga Springs there are two places that come up in Google, Saratoga Guitar and Music Center and Cole’s Woodwind Shop, I have visited both.

Saratoga Guitar has two Saratoga locations, 75 Weibel Ave and 480 Broadway LL10. Don’t let the name fool you, Saratoga Guitar does much more than guitars. I have purchased last minute supplies when they still had the West Ave location for the Sax, including reeds and 2 mouthpieces so far.

Saratoga Guitar is THE place to go for instrument rentals it used to be at the 60 West Ave location. I was there the other day while a young lady was excitedly receiving her clarinet. They provide area schools with band and orchestra rentals.

When you need supplies for your instruments from reeds to neck straps, mouthpieces to cleaning supplies, Saratoga Guitar is the place to go. The saxophone things we need are always in stock, which is awesome because buying a mouthpiece on the way to the band concert can be stressful!
Saratoga Guitar sells the band books of sheet music the kids need for school. They also have a large stock of sheet music to play for fun! If they DON’T have the sheet music you need, they can ORDER it for you.

Child #1 needed some maintenance on her flute as well as a good cleaning. The people at Saratoga Guitar recommended calling Bill at Cole’s Woodwind Shop right on Phila Street and it is the perfect place. Bill repaired and cleaned the flute in just a few days and at an affordable price. They were able to give me an estimate up front so I knew exactly what would be done and how much it would cost.

Check out the photo page of Cole’s Woodwind web site to see all sorts of famous musicians who love Bill’s work. SPAC hosts so many types of musical performances and Bill looks like the go to guy for instrument repair. There are pictures with musicians from the New York Philharmonic to the Dave Matthews Band. Bill Cole has a fascinating story and has repaired instruments from the Saratoga Springs High School band and the famous band Chicago.

Thanks to Saratoga Guitar and Music Center and Cole’s Woodwind Shop, my kids have all the supplies they need to have fun playing their instruments. Repair and maintenance right here in Saratoga is convenient and easy.

Have you experienced the customer service at these locations? Tell us about it in the comments below. Where do you go for instrument needs in the area? Is there anywhere else?

5 More Places to Find Pokemon in Areas Surrounding Saratoga Springs

There are Pokemon spawning in areas around Saratoga Springs, NY. Don’t just stick to the downtown Saratoga area, head out to towns outside of Saratoga Springs.

Pokemon Go was intended to get people out and walking. And another benefit of the super active game is to get out exploring areas you may have never been to before. It’s exciting to drive to a place known for awesome or rare Pokemon.

Here are some places you may not have tried yet, but cool Pokemon show up there often.

Saratoga Spa State Park

If you are looking for Bulbasaurs and Machops, get yourself to the Saratoga Spa State Park. Bulbasaurs are spawning all over including the entrance off South Broadway. Multiple Machops can be caught in the parking lot for the Gideon Putnam Hotel and the drop off circle in front of the hotel. (Don’t linger though, as I’m not sure how happy the hotel is with Poke Trainers hanging out in front of their hotel). Keep wandering the park because Bulbasaurs have been spawning behind the Automobile Museum and you can catch them while just driving and walking around the park.

Ballston Spa

Head to Ballston Spa and be sure to drive down Front Street. There are 3 Pokestops close together near Milton Ave and Front Street. Be sure to drive all the way to the end of Front Street to the little building that houses a spring. There are 2 Pokestops, one is a walking trail and the other is the Old Iron Spring. Especially when Lured, Magicarps, Polywags, Goldeens and Starus have been caught while walking around the area. While you are there, check out the Gym at the Saratoga County Historical Museum, team ownership changes frequently.

Wilton Place Plaza

There is a great Pokemon spawning place on Route 50 in Wilton, just outside Saratoga Springs. Wilton Place Plaza is home to Chipolte, Hattie’s Chicken Shack, Five Guys, AT&T, Sports Clips, Aspen Dental, and more. As you pull in you will see a road that connects this plaza with the Market 32 plaza. As you pull into the Market 32 parking lot you will see some cool Pokemon. Tauros, Meowth, Ghastly, and even Squirtle have been caught there. This isn’t a good place for walking because it is a parking lot, so please be careful.

Saratoga Lake

Dratini and Dragonair were caught right on Route 9p, which runs alongside Saratoga Lake. Not only is it a scenic drive along the water, but some interesting Pokemon spawn there too. Drive slowly as the road is curvy, but you never know what Pokemon you may find.

Lake George

There are plenty of souvenir shops and mini-golf places in Lake George. Did you know that Magicarps hang out in Lake George too? As you walk around the main street area make sure you head down Beach Road. It runs between the lake and Fort William Henry. Magicarps, Horseas, Goldeens and other water type Pokemon can be found. And while you are there, be sure to check out the supernatural Mystery Spot in Lake George right near the Visitors Center.
