Saratoga Springs Utility Providers

There are so many things to do and remember when moving to a new home. Whether you are moving across the city, across the state or across the country, some things need to be done before you can relax and enjoy living in your new area.

One of the most important items on the list is to set up all the utilities. Utilities are the necessary services for every home that are provided by towns, cities and companies.

Turn on the Power

In the Saratoga Springs area, there is only 1 option for gas and electricity, National Grid. You can start or stop service right on their web site. I did not use that when we moved, I call them instead. I found their contact information right on their website Customer Support, Monday – Friday, 7:00am – 7:00pm, 1-800-642-4272.

Throw it Out

Updated 8/15/2020

There have been more trash and recycling companies added to the area. The totes I see the most around my neighborhood and others are Twin Bridges Waste and Recycling. I have not see many, but I also know Waste Management is in the area too.

I only found two trash services for my neighborhood, Casella and County Waste. They both offer garbage and recycling pickup service at your home. I called each one and get the prices and sizes of the totes they offered. We have much more recycling than trash, so we went with the biggest recycling tote and a regular sized trash tote.

Both companies offer “single stream recycling” which means you don’t have to sort out your recyclables, you just dump them all in the tote. It’s very quick and convenient. Between my experience and seeing what all the neighbors have, I love that the recycling containers in this area are all totes. I don’t have to carry down multiple bins and stack them up at the end of the driveway. I can fill the recycling tote as heavy as I want and I can still roll it down to the street.

Let’s Watch

**UPDATE**

Time Warner has been bought by Spectrum.

There are 3 “TV” providers in the Saratoga Springs Area. If you want regular cable TV, your option is Spectrum (no longer Time Warner Cable). The other options are Dish Network and DIRECTV. Someone from the DIRECTV local company came to the house and looked for the “Line of Sight” to the Satellite from our roof to make sure we could get DIRECTV. We have too many trees in our yard (for now) so we can only choose Time Warner Cable.

Get Online

Verizon Fios is NOT available in the Saratoga Springs area yet. Albany NY has it so we are hopeful that it’s coming soon. But in the meantime, Spectrum (no longer Time Warner Cable) offers their Road Runner program and Verizon High Speed offers DSL service. With any Internet Service Provider, you need to choose the package that is right for you and your needs. There are different types of hardware you may need and some you can buy for yourself and some require you to use what they provide. Be sure to collect all the information when deciding how to get online at your home.

Water

If you are living within the Saratoga Springs School District, depending on which town you reside, there are many different options for your water utility. This one is a bit tricky.

Do you have more to add to the list? Have you tried the automated way of setting up any utilities? Give us a shout in the comments!
