A Fat Girl Walks Into an Athlete Store…

It sounds like the start of a great joke, but I really DID walk into an Athlete store on Friday morning. If you are a Saratoga runner then you probably know all about this cool store. If you haven’t been there, check it out!

I have been shopping for new sneakers for months. I have gone to DSW, Famous Footwear, The Shoe Department, Kohls, nothing worked. I need sneakers that will support my feet, help my knees and help my back. Tall order for a pair of shoes, it’s true.

After another fruitless shoe shopping day on Thursday, I looked up sneaker stores in the area, hoping for somewhere else to look. IRunLocal came up in the Google search. I have driven past IRun Local many times, it’s right by Wendy’s in downtown Saratoga. I checked out the website, they do indeed sell sneakers. I read the about page, a wonderful story about a husband and wife team who love to run and want to spread their enthusiasm and love of running to the world. It seems like a great place for any Saratoga runner to find products they need.

Ok, let’s go. So there I was, a fat girl walking into an athlete store. I was greeted by the beautiful owner, Jamie, with a huge smile. She never once made me feel like I was in the wrong store. The store has plenty of parking and is lovely inside, warm, bright, colorful and friendly. Jamie used her tablet to record me walking and used that to evaluate the type of walk I have and which shoes would be right for me.

I tried a few on. It was amazing! High-quality sneakers, made for runners, were so comfortable! The ones I really liked were a little too small, so Jamie special ordered more sizes for me to try.
